“Wood-Block Printing by the Japanese Method” is a feature magazine article for the fictitious fine art magazine Palette.
Originally, text and an image were given to be included in the final deliverable. First, research started with learning about the subject matter and finding a popular Japanese wood-block print, called The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Katsushika Hokusai. Since this artwork is under Public Domain, this was the main image used and the colors from it were repeated in the various typefaces used, backgrounds, and bottom border.
Then Adobe InDesign was used to create a proportional 3-column layout, a drop cap for the first word of the article, and a call out quote.
Overall, substantial time was spent researching magazine layouts and producing a professional mockup in Photoshop, that adhered to file specifications for a print-ready multi-page document.
