Royal Glass is a colorful 54-card deck that includes packaging.
For this advanced Adobe Illustrator project, research was initially conducted on traditional symbols and layouts used for this popular game.
First, Adobe Fresco was used to sketch an initial design and later refined in Adobe Illustrator to create geometric patterns that suggest a stained-glass motif. Then the colors chosen were vibrant saturated hues of the rainbow, used repetitively to unify each suite. Several shape tools were used in conjunction with using the direct selection tool to move anchor points to make custom shapes.
In summary, originality is seen in the color choices and making the face cards (Kings, Queens, and Jacks) in different shades that represent the diversity of the people that might use these products.
All assignment instructions were followed, including an 8-card 8.5”x11” template, 4 different suites, corresponding jokers, and a card back design.
Software used: Adobe Fresco and Illustrator
Since the main face cards are very colorful, the back design and packaging are neutral shades of grey. Geometric shapes are repeated from the main design, with the central motif being a fleur-de-lis, a symbol typically associated with royalty.
Extensive research was conducted into the traditional elements of a standard card deck. Then Adobe Fresco was used to sketch the initial design. This was then imported into Adobe Illustrator to create a final image.
